Wilma Irene "Betty" Taylor nee Perkins, 86, of Arcola, died at 5:50 AM Tuesday, May 20, 2014 at Carle Hospital in Urbana.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM Saturday, May 24, 2014 at Shrader Funeral Home, 204 N. Locust Street, Arcola, with Rev. Vince Rohn officiating. Burial will follow in the Arcola Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4:00-7:00 PM Friday at the funeral home.
Betty was born December 10, 1927, near Tolono, the daughter of Ernest and Eloise Baker Perkins. She was 86 years, 5 months, and 10 days. She was united in marriage to Charles M. Taylor on December 17, 1943, and they celebrated 61 years of marriage; he preceded her in death on March 8, 2005. She and Charles farmed for over 50 years in rural Arcola.
Survivors include her children, Marsha (Chuck) Towle of Arcola; Buzz Taylor of Granbury, Texas; Gwen Taylor of Fishers, Indiana; 8 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren; and 3 great- great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her son, Dennis; parents; great-great grandson, Thomas Kocher.
Betty attended Arcola and Tuscola schools. She was a member of the Arcola United Methodist Church, a former Galton Ladies' Club member, an avid card player, and excellent gardener. She began to play golf in later years and loved the sport. She was a former member of the Tri City and Kaskaskia Golf Clubs. Of all her many talents, cooking was her forte`, and her succulent pies and homemade noodles were unparalleled.
Her indomitable spirit will be greatly missed by all and shared with generations to come.
