IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Betty
Devore
August 16, 1931 – March 10, 2025
Betty Nell Dodd DeVore, 93, of Hammond, IL passed away on Monday, March 10, 2025 at the Arthur Home in Arthur, Illinois.
Betty was born August 16, 1931, the daughter of William Nathan and Edith Ion Dodd. She married M. Dean DeVore on November 19, 1950, in Cerro Gordo, Illinois. He passed away on August 27, 2013.
Surviving her are children: Debra DeVore (Michael) Bragg of Chicago, Barbara DeVore (Andy) Kleiss of Tuscola, and David DeVore (Debbie Dial) of Shelbyville; grandchildren: Lyndsay (Matthew) Williams, Kane (Bridget) Loveiss, Matthew (Molly) Bragg, Kent (Amber) England; and Zach (Emily) England; great grandchildren: Addyson and Carson Williams, Oliver and Isabel Loveiss, Alice and Rosemary Bragg, and Alex, Hunter, Madeline, and Noah England.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and four siblings.
Betty was a devoted mother and grandmother, life-long friend to many neighbors and residents in the Piatt/Moultrie County area, and active member of the Hammond United Methodist Church. Betty loved music and dance, sang in the church choir, performed in amateur theater, and founded and led a clogging dance troop in Mission, Texas where she and her husband, Dean, spent winters as "snow birds" for 35 years.
One of Betty's many accomplishments was being Cerro Gordo High School's drum major, which recognized her exceptional drum-playing skills. She was also cheerleader and Homecoming Queen candidate for her senior class. Later in life, she became an avid golfer, winning Bingo player, and imaginative storyteller. She loved to host family gatherings and enjoyed eating out with friends. She and her entire family are forever grateful for the love and support her friends and neighbors showed later in life, providing a ride to bible study, driving her to doctor's appointments and shopping, and frequent phone calls and visits to keep her company.
During the last year of her life, Betty lived at Eberhardt Village in Arthur where she made many new friends and renewed ties with old acquaintances. She was immensely grateful to the staff whose quality care, patience, and kindness allowed her to live her last days in peace and joy.
Our family is grateful for the many kindnesses shown to us by the health care providers at Eberhardt Village and the Arthur Home, as well as all family and friends who kept Betty in their thoughts and prayers.
