Anita Crist (Andres), 70, of Atwood, IL, passed away at 10:53 pm, Thursday, August 19, 2010 in her home surrounded by her family.

Ms. Crist was born on January 16, 1940 in Moline, IL to Samuel and Frances Crist. Anita was a 1958 graduate of Atwood Hammond High School and later completed business classes at Parkland College in Champaign. In early years, she was an active participant in cheerleading and a member of the local 4-H in which she received a large assortment or ribbons and trophies. In 1956, Anita was crowned Miss Dairy Queen at the Decatur fairgrounds and later was crowned the 1958 Miss Soybean Queen at the Douglas County fairgrounds. She was a member of the Atwood Methodist Church and Tuscola Moose before being diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis (M.S.). She was also a active gardener, crafter and bowler. For many years she served as the President of her local American Heart Association chapter, where she organized fundraisers and awareness campaigns. She was employed for several years as Captain of Security for both Cabot and U.S.I. in Tuscola. Anita enjoyed attending M.S. camps and spending the majority of her later years watching the Lifetime channel and carrying on numerous conversations with her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and all those which she considered to be family. In 1962, Anita married her husband of 35 years, Frank Andres (later divorced).

She was preceded in death by her parents and one niece.

She was survived by her 4 children, Rodney Andres of Attica, Pamela Harper (Greg Clark) of Atwood, Kelly Bialke (Andy Bratten) of Tuscola, and Sheila Bratten (Kris Bratten) of Tuscola, her brother: Darrell Crist of Kiowa, CO, sister: Judy Martin of Tuscola, 12 grandchildren: Tiffany, Craig, Coltan, Stacie (husband: Jeremy), Zachary, Austin, Jeremy (wife: Lisa), Jessica, Tyberius, Kiera, Mia, Kierstin, Marissa, Adam,
7 great-grandchildren: Ethan, Grant, Gage, Kayelynn, Deondra, Calie, Calvin.

Celebration of Life Services will be held at 7:00 pm, Monday, August 23, 2010 at the Hilligoss Shrader Funeral Home, 66 East US Highway 36, Atwood, IL, with the Rev. Joseph Carter officiating. Visitation will be held from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Monday at the funeral home.
