Alvin Wingler, 79, of Arcola, died at 2:45 AM Monday, August 31, 2009 at his home surrounded by his family.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, September 5, 2009 at Shrader Funeral Home, 204 N. Locust Street, Arcola, with Rev. Bruce Baker officiating. Visitation will be held from 10:00-11:00 AM. Interment will be in the Arcola Cemetery.
Alvin was born June 2, 1930 in Filson, the son of John and Leah Sutten Wingler. He was united in marriage to Dona Warren in Arcola on August 7, 1948; she survives.
Besides his wife Dona, he is survived by 1 daughter, Marie Doehring and husband Dale of St. Joseph; 2 sons, Tony Wingler and wife Martha of Ft. Myers, Florida; Tim Wingler and wife Bernice of Newman; 3 brothers, Gene Wingler and wife Eileen of Oakland; Jerry Wingler and wife Julie of Jolton, Tennessee; Lew Wingler and wife Diane of Geneva, Indiana; sister-in-law, Joann Wingler of Arcola; 12 grandchildren; and 15 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and 1 brother, Don Wingler.
Alvin graduated from Arcola High School in 1948. He was owner/operator of the Warren Broom Company in Arcola from 1952-1997 and was later employed at Rockome Gardens from 1999-2004. Alvin was a member of the Arcola United Methodist Church and the Arcola AF&AM Masonic Lodge #366. He served as City Treasurer from 1961-1976 and was chairman of the Senior Citizens Board from 2001-2009.
Alvin enjoyed fishing, especially trout fishing in Lebanon, Missouri; loved traveling and exploring with his best friend and wife, Dona; and loved spending time with his family.
