Alberta Viola Brehm, 86, of Arcola, died at 3:18 PM Sunday, March 8, 2009 at the Arthur Home.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM Wednesday, March 11, 2009 at the Arcola United Methodist Church, 121 S. Locust Street, Arcola, with Rev. Bruce Baker officiating. Burial will follow in the Arthur Cemetery in Arthur. Visitation will be held from 4:00-7:00 PM Tuesday at Shrader Funeral Home, 204 N. Locust Street, Arcola.

Alberta was born April 5, 1922 in Chesterville, the daughter of Henry and Mary Elizabeth Johnson Hilgenberg. She married Robert "Bob" Brehm in Detroit, Michigan on June 26, 1943; he preceded her in death on February 26, 1998.

Survivors include 3 daughters, Dr. Barbara Brehm, Beverly Pryor and husband Dave, and Brenda Reeser all of Arcola; 5 grandchildren, Robert and Todd Guennewig, Amanda Boyer, Cassie and Ginger Reeser. She was preceded in death by 2 brothers, 1 sister, and a half sister.

Alberta graduated from Eastern Illinois Teacher's College in Charleston and taught in the elementary school systems at Cerro Gordo, Troy, and Arthur. She was an active member of the Arcola United Methodist Church where she enjoyed helping with church dinners.

Alberta was proud of her farm heritage and was active in farming and cattle operations. She was devoted to her family and church, but took special joy and spent many happy hours with her grandchildren.
