Agnes Joan Spence, 82, of Tuscola, IL passed away peacefully at 4:38 a.m. Sunday, February 22, 2015 at Carle Hospital in Urbana IL.


Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, February 28, 2015 at the Hilligoss Shrader Funeral Home, 705 South Main Street, Tuscola, IL with Rev. Tim Garrett officiating. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Friday, February 27, 2015. Burial will be in the Resthaven Memorial Gardens, Mattoon, IL.

Mrs. Spence was born January 13, 1933 in Charleston, Coles County, Illinois, the daughter of James and Elizabeth Reel. She married Forrest Dale Spence on June 5, 1949 in Charleston IL. He preceded her in death on November 10, 2003.

Survivors include her daughters Janet Spence (David) Butler and Sherrie Dale (Tim) Hoel, both of Tuscola, sister Janell Nees of Tuscola, granddaughter April Kauffman of Arthur, great-grandson James Chase Kauffman of Charleston, great-grandson Hunter Dale Kauffman of Tuscola, step-grandchildren Betsy Hoel of Columbus Ohio, Erica (Jeremy) Leonard of Tuscola, Timothy G. Hoel of Champaign IL., step-great-grandchildren Ethan Hearnley and Claire Leonard of Tuscola, and nephew James Nees of Tuscola.

Joan was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan, and enjoyed many other sports from her living room chair as well. She and her husband owned S & W Campers Center for several years in the 1960s. She was a member of the Tuscola Kiwanis Club, Douglas County Museum, and Tuscola First Christian Church.
